    Official update docs

While many of us have been living the Lollipop life and looking forward to Marshmallow, life hasn’t been so grand for owners of the first generation Moto X on Verizon. They’ve been languishing on Android 4.4.4 all this time, but it looks like that’s finally changing. A soak test for Android 5.1 is starting to roll out, and that could soon mean a general release of Lollipop for this once proud device.

The update bumps the Moto X up to Android 5.1 and also includes security fixes, which I’m sure is Stagefright. There are also improvements to lost or stolen device protection. The version number for this update is 222.26.7.en.US.

If the soak test goes well, you can expect an official rollout before long. If you just can’t wait, you’ll probably be able to find the OTA file mirrored somewhere on XDA. However, if this doesn’t end up being the final build, you’ll be unable to (easily) update to that one.

Official update docs

It looks like this update is official. Verizon has posted the update docs for the Moto X, and the version number matches the soak test. It shouldn’t be long.
